We’ve been trying out some of the new lip colors that “stay”. They work, but they are drying as heck. So here’s a couple of tips on managing the post-use dryness that comes with the staying power.
By the way, the ones we tried were L’Oreal Infallible Gloss (very affordable and a stain and gloss in one) and Chanel Ultra Wear Lip Color- beautiful colors and luscious but you HAVE to use the gloss part too or your lips will feel like paper in about 4 minutes.
Because stay-power means you are going to make some kind of trade-off, a little pre and post attention helps you enjoy the benefits without sacrificing your lips’ texture and softness.
Our suggestion for prep?
- Wash your face and when you dry, use a dry washcloth to exfoliate old skin from your lips. Or use a clean toothbrush with some petroleum jelly and massage. Getting dead skin off before you apply any lip color or gloss will give better finish.
- Another option is to use a lip treatment balm before application. This might negate a little of the staying power, but dry lips tend to look older.
Suggestions for “post” use
- Do NOT go to bed with these lip colors on. You’ll wake up feeling like you own a prune instead of lips. Remove the lip color completely (eye makep remover works wonderfully well for this).
- Replenish your lips with some good lip balm or something like the Burt’s Bees lip products.
If you’ve got a favorite that stays and doesn’t dry out your lips, we’d love to hear about it, so share with us!
