Cosmoplast/Cosmoderm
What is Cosmoplast and Cosmoderm?
Cosmoplast/Cosmoderm are the only FDA-approved, commercially available dermal fillers that contain natural human collagen. CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast do not require a pre-treatment skin test, making them the first same-day, single-visit dermal fillers approved in the United States. This natural human collagen has been purified from dermal tissue grown under controlled laboratory conditions.

Cosmoderm and CosmoPlast are injected just below the surface of the skin, filling in unwanted lines and wrinkles and adding definition to the lip border. For Acne Scars, Cosmoplast and other fillers offer a temporary leveling to make the skin appear smooth. You can think of collagen as being a little like scaffolding that supports your skin.
What results can I expect with Cosmoplast?
CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast provide immediate results in just one visit. So whether it's correcting facial wrinkles, glabellar frown lines, nasolabial folds or vermilion (lip) borders, you will see results instantly.

Do The Injections hurt?
Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast injections are formulated with Lidocaine to minimize patient discomfort. However, you may apply an anesthetic numbing cream to the area you want injected to help relieve some discomfort.
How long does Cosmoplast last?
Treatment results are immediate and typically last three months or more. Without ongoing treatments, the collagen is gradually absorbed by the body, the added plumpness goes away and lines and wrinkles return. A systematic correction program keeps you looking how you want, so scheduled treatments work well for Cosmoplast users.
How safe is Cosmoplast?
Treatment with FDA-approved CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast is a safe and effective way to aid in the correction of facial wrinkles, frown lines, skin folds, vermilion borders of the lip, scars and other soft tissue deficiencies.
The collagen in CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast is isolated, and purified from human dermal tissue grown under very strictly controlled laboratory conditions. The starting dermal fibroblasts are checked for known pathogens, and the resultant tissue undergoes a series of stringent tests to ensure that it is free from contaminants. In an extra step, the collagen is subjected to additional viral inactivation for added safety.
What is the difference between CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast?
CosmoDerm is used for fine lines such as crow's feet and the fine lines radiating above the lips while CosmoPlast is used in the treatment of deeper lines and furrows and lip augmentation or "plumping".

In this photo you can see how both products have been used to fill lines, creases and put back lost lip volume.
Are there advantages of Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast over other fillers?
Both products are referred to as "camera ready", meaning they have the least potential for post-injection swelling. Typically any minimal swelling is gone in a few hours and at most less than 24. If you want the least "side-effect" from a filler injection, then Cosmoderm or Cosmoplast may be your best choice. In addition, Cosmoderm/Cosmoplast work well for fine lines (such as those on the upper lip) as well as creating a soft natural lip border. Dr. Fitzgerald will help you in deciding which filler will work best for you and your needs.
Can I use Botox® Cosmetic and CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast together?
Yes. There are no restrictions in using both and the combined results of these, and fillers such as the recently-released hyaluronic acid filler Juvederm, are very satisfying.
This special wrinkle-removing technique gives a synergistic response. It's a favorite of Dr. Fitzgerald's patients.
Dr. Fitzgerald gets superlative results on "smokers lines" (By the way, you don't have to be a smoker to have them!) by using a tiny touch of Botox alongside the Cosmoderm injections you can slow the progression of the lines as well as increase the duration of the filler.
