Submental fat, also known as a double chin, is incredibly common. And while weight fluctuations can cause the issue, it can also be a result of genetics, aging, and even posture, making it something unavoidable in many cases. No matter its cause, a double chin will obscure the jawline and create a heavier, more aged, and less defined facial appearance, which can make it a real problem for many people.
It's hard to love a double chin, but it's also challenging to make it disappear once it's there. In fact, without assistance, the issue is likely permanent. Fortunately, "assistance" needn't include incisions, surgery, or even downtime. All it takes is a few visits to our comfortable Los Angeles Office.
Kybella® is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive treatment for double chin. Completely non-surgical, this injection of deoxycholic acid (a substance that is naturally produced by the body) works to destroy fat cells permanently, allowing the body to eliminate them through the natural process of waste removal.
It typically takes four to six appointments, spaced a few weeks apart, to remove unwanted fat from underneath the chin altogether. And, because Kybella relies on the body's natural process of elimination, full results may take several months to be achieved. However, Kybella is incredibly effective and does not come with surgical risks, the potential for scarring, or other issues related to surgical fat removal, making it a much better option for many of our patients.
During your initial consultation, we can discuss timing and outcomes in more detail to help you understand when you can expect to see significant improvements after treatment with Kybella.
Kybella melts chin fat, eliminating double chin and restoring a better-contoured jawline. However, suppose your skin lacks elasticity or fails to tighten naturally. In that case, combining Kybella with another treatment, such as Ultherapy®, Genius® RF Microneedling, dermal fillers, or a wrinkle relaxer may be best. We can help you determine if this is the case for you.
Additional treatments are not always necessary, but can be incredibly beneficial for individuals with pronounced skin laxity. During your initial consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists, we will carefully assess the health of your skin and provide information about all potentially helpful treatments to help you select the most suitable options for your needs.
