Once you have received your microneedling treatment, there are a few things you can do to ensure your results last as long as possible. To help with aftercare, Dr. Rebecca Fitzgerald will give you detailed instructions based on your skin type and treatment levels. By carefully following these steps, you will be able to enjoy your rejuvenated skin for much longer.
Limit Exposure to Sunlight
Sunlight is the number one cause of premature skin aging and damage. In addition, your skin will be more sensitive to sunlight immediately following your microneedling procedure. For the first two weeks after your treatment, use sunscreen or sun block as directed - this could be different from your normal daily application. Avoid sun exposure as much as possible to allow skin to heal properly. Hats when outside will help.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals
In general, it is best to avoid any skin care product that isn’t recommended by Dr. Fitzgerald for a few days after a microneedling treatment.
In particular avoid:
- Strong exfoliates
- Scented products
- Glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acids
After about one week, you should be able to return to your regular skin care routine, but make sure to check with Dr. Fitzgerald. In addition, since swimming pools and hot tubs often contain strong chemicals, you should try to avoid them until skin is fully healed.
Do Not Touch Your Face
Since your skin will be extremely sensitive, you should refrain from touching your face unless applying skin cream as directed. Oil and dirt from your hands can get onto the treatment area, increasing the risk of infection. If you must touch your face, wash your hands with clean water and soap first.
