How Profound Works

Profound delivers skin-changing radio frequency (RF) energy via tiny micro needles that insert into the dermal layers of the skin. (Don’t worry, your skin will be numbed and pain-free.) After a quick system “test” to assure correct placement, the tiny needles glide into the skin and deliver an RF pulse for about 3 seconds. The handpiece is then moved incrementally across the treatment areas, following the same 1-2 action.
A cooling plate rests on the skin directly behind the insertion area so your skin is protectively cooled on the surface. The number of insertions will depend upon your skin condition, laxity levels and locations of treatment.

Is There Downtime?
Yes. It's not excessive, but there is some skin recovery expected. Expect noticeable bruising and swelling for approximately a week as this IS an actionable treatment! Your skin may also look a little bumpy, as if you've had bee stings. This is a natural reaction to the micro needle insertion points. The bumps will subside. Bruising and swelling will go away too. Take care of yourself, drink plenty of water, rest, and eat healthy foods to speed up your recovery. The trade is a little downtime in exchange for 1 treatment visit.
Profound “Deep” with SubQ
Deeper treatment effectively helps contour your lower face by thermally destroying fat cells and tightening muscle. Fat collections in the neck and under the chin can be thermally obliterated to refine this area. (Kybella is an injectable treatment that destroys discernible fat under the chin.)
What’s the Importance of REAL TIME Feedback and Control?
Safety is a big issue. We’ll never sacrifice your safety just to get an effect. Where Profound truly cemented our decision was the REAL TIME temperature-sensing features built into the system - at precision levels. No guesswork, no “oh no”, and no big surprises for you, or us!
Your skin has to get hot to start the cascade effects that make all those great changes – but not TOO hot. There is a very specific temperature required for treatment effectiveness – 67 degrees Centigrade. Treating under that temperature diminishes the effectiveness. Treating over that temperature induces the risk of undesired tissue destruction…NOT what we want.
Profound's sophisticated computer controls manage heat levels between each and every needle set - in real time - for each and every insertion to be sure the skin neither over-heats nor under-heats.
This means you get predictable skin response without the risks that can come with unverified or overly-high temperature levels at the point of treatment.
Is the Volume Creation from New Collagen Enough to Forego Fillers?
Fillers will always play a really big role in the creation or recreation of desirable facial contours. The naturally-occurring loss of muscle, fat and bone equate to a skin envelope that literally demands re-volumizing levels that can only be accomplished with fillers. Combining technologies with fillers can be the 1+1=3 equation.
Dr. Fitzgerald’s work with facial fillers is respected and emulated around the world. Heating the skin is a proven way to stimulate processes that lift and smooth, but isn't capable of restoring obvious volume depletion.
Will Profound Take the Place of a Face Lift?
We’re not ready to pronounce any non surgical device as a 1:1 comparative to a surgical face lift, but Profound is shaping up to be a substantial intervention option.
Who Is a Good Profound Candidate?
A particular positive of this treatment is the wide age range it works for. If you have generally healthy skin, there are very few conditions that would make Profound a "no go".
If you have excessive skin laxity or redundant skin, we’ll tell you the limitations. A professional consultation is the best way to determine suitability. Is Profound the same as Micro Needling?
There are some similarities. Needles are inserted into the skin in both standard Micro Needling and Profound but the needles themselves are very different. Standard Micro Needling does not include the deposit of energy, plus the post treatment side effects are not the same.
