Dermaplaning in Los Angeles
How do you get “glass skin”? Is it from skin care products? Laser treatments? Or something else? Something like dermaplaning…

Skin reflects light depending on the smoothness of the skin surface. While lasers can resurface skin to achieve a smoother surface, the simple zero-downtime dermaplaning procedure can instantly create a smoother, more reflective skin canvas.
Dermaplaning – A Different Type of Exfoliation
Dermaplaning is a form of manual exfoliation similar in theory to microdermabrasion but without the use of suction or abrasive crystals. An esthetician-grade, sterile blade is stroked along the skin at an angle to gently “shave off” dead skin cells from the epidermis. Dermaplaning also temporarily removes the fine vellus hair of the face, leaving a very smooth surface. Those with darker facial hair especially appreciate the immediate benefits.
Benefits of Dermaplaning
- Allows home care products to be more effective
- Reduces the appearance of fine lines
- Evens skin tone
- Assists in reducing milia, closed and open comedones, and minor breakouts associated with congested pores
- Dermaplaning can be an effective alternative gentle exfoliation method for clients that have telangiectasias (tiny blood vessels near the surface of the skin), sensitive skin or allergies that prevent the use of microdermabrasion or chemical peels.
*The sterile blade used in an office setting is completely safe in trained and skilled hands and is NOT the same tool you see in drug stores and online.
Although you see home-use versions of dermaplaning straight razors or blades, the risks from mass produced razors with poorly-honed cheap metals include scarring that you can see and invisible micro-scarring that can lead to hyperpigmentation, painful skin tears, abrasions and even infection.
Quality skin care products are an investment. Removing barriers to absorption helps you get the most benefit from serums and creams. Hydrated skin that is smooth equates to a healthier appearance and the best chance to enjoy the coveted glass skin look.
Our team will help you determine if dermaplaning is the right treatment for you. We will assess your skin, explain the benefits of the different Restorative Facials and help you select the most effective option to meet your needs.
Your Dermaplaning Procedure and Recovery: What To Expect
Prep the Skin: Your skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove any makeup or dirt.
Apply Serum/Oil: The luxurious L’Immortela Elixir is applied along with a facial massage.
Dermaplaning: The aesthetician uses a sterile blade to gently scrape the skin at a 45-degree angle.
Post-Treatment: A soothing gel or serum may be applied to reduce redness, swelling, or irritation.
There is no downtime required for dermaplaning, meaning that you may return to your usual daily activities after treatment at our Los Angeles clinic. However, even after the dermaplaning scalpel reveals your new, fresh skin underneath the top layer, it is important to be careful not to overdo it with acids or retinols.
You may experience a slight stinging sensation and facial redness which dissipate very quickly. Depending on your individual preferences, you may repeat a dermaplaning procedure every two to four weeks. Skin cell renewal typically occurs monthly, so your dermaplaning procedure should align with your skin’s natural cell replication cycle.
How To Make Your Dermaplaning Results Last
Post Treatment / Home Care
- Aerobic exercise or vigorous physical activity should be avoided until all redness has subsided.
- Direct sunlight exposure is to be completely avoided immediately following the treatment (including any strong UV light exposure or tanning beds).
- Although SPF 30+ should already be a part of your daily skin care, after dermaplaning, SPF 30+ must be applied daily to the treated area for a minimum of two weeks.
- Twice daily cleanse the treated area with a gentle cleanser, followed by a serum or treatment cream and follow with SPF 30+ sunscreen.
- Proper aftercare is essential to ensuring long-lasting dermaplaning results. Your aesthetician will recommend any needed aftercare and advise you on the use of active serums you may already use in your normal skin care routine.
